Palestine's history is rich and preserved in the Main Street District. We are one of the few Texas towns that retains late 19th century character through its historic homes and buildings.

Palestine was formed in 1846, the year after Texas established its statehood. It was a sleepy little antebellum town until 1872 when the International & Great Northern Railroad arrived. 



Today, the Palestine Main Street District is a unique gem split into three distinct parts: Downtown, Old Town and the Courthouse Square cover 44 blocks.  The buildings of the Main Street District are filled with antiques, unique shopping, bakeries and restaurants for all palettes.
